Normally we’d focus on compressed air…but we couldn’t help but enjoy this video from Worthington Cylinders on how aluminum SCUBA tanks are made. It’s a complex process, but the video breaks it down nicely and presents the information in a succinct and engaging format. You’ll see not just the basic formation of the tank but the important steps of adding valves, hydrostatic testing to ensure proper operation, independent inspection, and tank preparation for holding particular types of air.

From the utilization of the right aluminum alloy to the press punch system for tank formation to the heating process that helps strengthen the aluminum, the video presents an extremely important step in what makes diving such a safe, enjoyable and possible activity today.

Of course: Don’t forget to test your compressed air!
